At least, once in your life, you should have the pleasure of watching the beautiful northern lights from the surreal glass Igloos in Finland. Buried slightly into the snow, the glass igloo is located at the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort. It is undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, you may never get the feeling back, that feeling of complete admiration and awe at the beauty in the world that you would have when you see it the very first time from the transparent igloo.
If you look out through the glass of the igloo, you’d be dazzled by the number of stars that flood the clear skies. You’d be having this experience in a very comfortable room designed from special thermal glass that helps maintain a conducive temperature. In addition to the provided heat keeping you warm inside, it also prevents the snow outside from obscuring your view through the glass.
You get to see everything clearly and in comfort despite the subfreezing temperatures of below -30°C outside. There are restrooms in every igloo as well as king-sized luxurious beds. Just imagine being in a comfy five-star hotel, and right outside, through your window, you can gaze upon the terrific northern lights. Fun fact — the resort is just about 150 miles north of the Arctic Circle in a place known as Finnish Lapland.
You would get to see the famous Aurora Borealis, that display of seductive light in the sky. No matter how scientists choose to explain it, all the electrons colliding with oxygen and whatnot, the only thing that matters is the excitement of being in that space and witnessing such a wonder. But in winter, that’s not the only thing you get to witness in this Finnish Lapland.
Since the snow will be…well, everywhere.., you would have some fun riding in the snowmobiles and riding the sleds with the huskies. You may also prefer to do some ice fishing or look for reindeers, but when it’s summertime, you’d get a chance to do some horse riding.
This top travel destination has been home to several famous visitors. It was originally constructed at the end of the 20th century and with time, it has undergone several adjustments and improvements.
It is said that the Aurora can disrupt technology and the igloos themselves have no reception. Guests at the hotel have WiFi access but many have expressed that the break from digital devices in the igloos is one they appreciate.
There are about 65 igloos at the resort, a large number of them are meant to accommodate two people but there are also some available igloos that can take up to four guests, and others that can take up to six. For half a thousand dollars, you can enjoy a night in this magical place. The green Aurora lights are usually seen between September and April but they can come up countless times within that period, so if you’re planning to visit, you can plan easily with that in mind.
